As your home gets older, the electrical ages along with the home and become a safety hazard. While this kind of damage does happen over time it can certainly lead to some serious problems down the road. If you have a home that is over 30 years old you should seriously consider getting your electrical inspected. It's could save you thousands of dollars in damage and we recommend hiring only a licenced professional.

Here is a short list of issues you may run into as your home ages.

The Electrical Wiring

One of the first, and most important, component of your electrical system that may have to be upgraded is the wiring. However, this is going to depend on the type of wiring in your home. An older wiring system can cause fires and be hazardous to you and your family. Regardless of the type of wiring in your home, a professional can replace it with new, safe wiring.

The Electrical Panel

This component of your electrical system is responsible for regulating the flow of the current from the outside power source into your home. If no regulation is provided, then a power surge may occur in the walls, and a fire is likely to follow.

While most electrical panels are sturdy and can last a long time, it’s important to have the existing one inspected to see if it is controlling the electrical flow properly. This is not a DIY process.

The Wall Receptacles

The wall receptacles in your home can also cause fires if they have become old and worn out. Also, you need to have all the receptacles in your kitchen and bathrooms upgraded to GFCI units. These units are specially designed to cut off the electrical supply at the source if there’s a threat of an electrical shock due to water. The electrician you hire will inspect your home to find out if any outlets are burned or if they look as though they have been damaged.
